Yacht Race Program 2018-19

We’ve updated the online calendar for the 2018-19 yacht racing season so that you can start planning for next season. There are quite a few changes to the format, mainly aimed at growing the fleet size of races.

The key changes are:
• The Pittwater Couta fleet has decided to join ASC. The Coutas will race in a number of our races, including the Retriever series races.
• There will be four Retriever races, with one drop. Coutas will be Division 1 with a scratch start at 1:00pm, and other yachts will be Division 2 with a scratch start at 1:10pm
• The Koolong Trophy will be held over two Saturdays (17 Nov & 16 Mar) and is to be known as the Koolong Saturday Sprints, comprising a total of six sprint races, with one drop.

• The Blue Water Shield (BWS) will comprise four offshore races, with one drop, with the races hosted by Palm Beach Yacht Club (PBYC) and sailed under PBYC Race Instructions. Entry to these races is included in our yacht racing fee (in return PBYC yachts get one free entry to an ASC series). Those yachts which wish to enter the PBYC offshore races (18 Nov; 20 Jan; 17 Feb; and 17 Mar) should contact PBYC Phil Smith psmith@opticomm.net.au with their entry details. The scores by ASC yachts in those four races, with one drop, will form the results for the Blue Water Shield.
• ASC yachts will be encouraged to enter the Broken Bay Interclub Challenge (BBIC) race series. These races are held on Saturdays (10 Nov; 8 Dec; 9 Feb; and 9 Mar). Entry details from RMYC will be provided closer to the races. To encourage entry in these races there will be no ASC yacht racing on the Sunday of that weekend. Boats with a mast height (or air draft incl antenna) > 17.2m (along with yachts without a motor) may apply for redress for the Gosford race.
• The Quartet Bowl will remain six races, with one drop. The handicap start is being pushing back 30 minutes to 1:00pm. This should provide for a bit better wind for the early starters and give everyone a bit more free time in the morning.
• The Avalon Series remains eight races, with two drops. It is now held on either the 1st or 2nd Sunday of the month. There will be a BBQ after these races, and the Spiral fleet sailors will be joining us for quite a few of those.

Thanks to PBYC and RMYC for their help in co-ordinating our calendar and racing programme, which we hope will bring a broad range of racing formats and increased fleet sizes to ASC yachts for the 2018-19 season.
