ASC Achieve Fantastic Results at Open Bic NSW State Championships

Team Avalon

ASC at Open Bic NSW State Championships 2017

8 of our Open Bic Sailors travelled to the Southern end of Lake Macquarie to Mannering Park Sailing club to compete in the 2017 NSW State titles NOV 11th/12th.

Noah Quinlan was our only gold group competitor and sailed a solid 10th with some tough competitors and tricky wind conditions.
In our silver fleet which had 6 of our BIC Sailors in it did very well and for most them it was their first ever regatta.
Charlie Johnson 1st
Josh Tallis 2nd
Cooper Johnson 4th
Kyle Johnson 6th
Sabine with a credible 7th as she couldn’t complete the last race as she had a crash capsize and injured herself.
Our Red group sailor Hallie Tanks did incredibly well, as she has only been in her BIC for a few months competed in the green fleet on the Saturday and gained enough confidence to have a go at the Silver fleet on the Sunday and sail in the 4 races with her best result a 12th so well done to her.

8 of our Open Bic Sailors travelled to the Southern end of Lake Macquarie to Mannering Park Sailing club to compete in the 2017 NSW State titles NOV 11th/12th.

Team Avalon had a great time at the regatta which consisted of fun adventure races in the mornings and then sailed 8 races over the weekend to compete for the state title, with fierce competition from  45 other BIC sailors as far away as Tinaroo Saling club in  North QLD and Victorian Sailors in the south as well.

The atmosphere of Mannering Park is a whole lot of fun with the competitor’s all staying in the Caravan park next door with an easy walk to the sailing club all very social with the kids hanging around together before and after sailing.

Once registration was over ,the 1st days events got underway with briefing about the new rules which were being trialled at the event, one which the kids all liked was they are now able to touch the marks without breaking the rule and pumping down wind was allowed. They also had on water umpires for the event as well which kept them all out of the protest room after sailing and learning on the race track.

All of Team Avalon showed great sportsmanship on and off the water, with some fantastic results.

BIC sailing is all about having fun and having a go, so even Josh Tallis younger sister Emma had a go in the Green fleet for both days and competed in the adventure races with the rest of the fleet, she was the youngest competitor there and had a whole lot of fun and cant wait to get out on the BIC again.

If anyone would like to try sailing a BIC come down and see us on a Sunday morning and we can help you out.
