REASONS FOR SAILING A SPIRAL DINGHY AT AVALON SAILING CLUB

  1. A family friendly class:

    1. Well-built, low cost dinghy that won't cost much to keep sailing.
    2. The Spiral Association holds a stock of those spare parts that are not readily available from the yachting shops.
    3. Association members are happy to give practical advice on repairs to rig and hull.
    4. Low cost membership fees and race fees
    5. Events are held at clubs with camping facilities to keep accommodation costs down
    6. National Championships are a three day event, held to coincide with the Australia Day holiday.
    7. State Championships are held in March or April over one weekend

  2. New Spirals are built by renowned boat builder, Mark Thorpe, at his Cromer factory.

  3. The Spiral Association is managed by an active committee whose first priority is our members.
  4. Friendly competition is the objective of the Spiral Class. Our raison d'étre "Competitive on the water but friendly off the water"

  5. There are 8 Divisions in the Spiral Fleet at National & State Championships, with a separate Trophy for each Division, to encourage racing within each race.

  6. A "gentle" entry for teenagers to an adult sailing class.

  7. There is even a small-sail version for lighter entrants to the class, the Spiral 36

  8. Ideal entry to higher performance sailing class for kids coming out of Bic, MJ or perhaps even a Flying 11.

  9. As a similar type of dinghy, the Spiral offers a lighter (and easier) entry to the Laser.

  10. Ideal boat for novice adults wishing to learn to sail.

  11. The Spiral Association provides training:
    1. For mid level and beginner sailors – By Spiral Association members with training qualifications
    2. For our top sailors - By nationally renowned coaches.
